You’ve been wanting to get away for some time. Perhaps it’s time to go visit your relatives, or you’re looking to go somewhere to drive your Maxima that is a little more fun. On the other hand, it could be that you need to head out of town for a business trip. Whatever your reasons are, it’s time to go. But traveling tends to be stressful, so why let all that anxiety cause a headache when you want to have a good time?
The fact that there’s a huge number of apps you can use that’ll ease your traveling burdens is both good and bad. Great, that you’ll be able to find what you’re looking for; and bad that you need to sift through such a huge number of apps. Here are 5 apps everyone should consider to make their summer road trips easier:
Tripit is the first, and arguably the most important, to download. This app really shines when you begin planning your trip. Tripit connects to your email accounts and recognizes travel confirmations in order to generate your itinerary. These bookings include flight times and delays, car rentals and hotel bookings. If that’s not enough, Tripit will also sync your calendar, stores important travel documents and gives you the ability to share your itinerary with those you need to keep updated.
Postagram is a nifty app that sends a physical 4×6 postcard to a chosen recipient’s home address, complete with metered postage. All you need to do is choose a photo from your mobile device, Facebook or Instagram account, then write a short note and enter your recipient’s address. Within a couple days your postcard will arrive. Considering you’ll be sending custom postcards to your friends and family, $0.99 per postcard is quite a bargain.
Gas Buddy is a must have app when you’re staying local, but especially so when you’re on the road. By using your mobile device’s location, it’ll show you nearby gas stations and their fuel prices. You can sort the information either by distance from your location or price. So when you’re on vacation, the less you spend on gas is more you can use for something fun.
Another location using app, Weather Bug does exactly what it sounds like, gives you the weather wherever you are. You’re also able to manually enter multiple other locations, each of which Weather Bug will track for you. This app has a very natural, easy to use interface that doesn’t put a major strain on your battery if you’re using your phone and is easy to use from the touchscreen in your car.
On those long road trips, it’s inevitable you’ll run out of things to talk about with your friends, family or coworkers. Don’t let hours of awkward silence and boredom bring you down. Heads Up! is a wildly popular game similar to charades. One contestant places his or her phone, which displays a word, face out near their forehead. The others then give clues so the guesser might figure out the word. There’s also no need to worry about running out of words, as there are over 18 different decks for hundreds of hours of playability. Initially a board game of sorts, Heads Up! certainly feels that it was meant to be mobile. While drivers can’t play along, for obvious reasons, Heads Up! provides a great way to keep the kids entertained on long road trips.
So no matter where you’re heading, or the reasons why, these five apps are most definitely need-to-have on your road trip. Some of them could even save your road trip from being a disaster.
