The 2017 Nissan Titan half-ton has won MotorWeeks Drivers’ Choice Award for Best Pickup Truck. It was announced at the Auto Show in Chicago, and was featured in an episode of MotorWeek in February. The half-ton champion has 390 horsepower and a 5.6L V8 engine. It’s been hailed by both motor enthusiasts and the public as having the towing power and rugged features that truck drivers are looking for today.

No Stranger to Awards

Last year, the Titan XD won the Best Pickup Truck from Motorweek, so this honor does not necessarily come as a shock to anyone. The creator of the MotorWeek show and host John Davis has marveled at Nissan’s thorough breakthrough into the full-size pickup truck category. Even though pickups were the first vehicle manufactured in Nissan’s North America facility more than 30 years ago, they’ve had stiff competition when it comes to sales. The Titan has consistently proven that these trucks can hold their own when it comes to tackling the bigger tasks though. Nissan has increased both the durability and the comfort levels, and managed to fill a niche between the lighter trucks and the heavy duty varieties. Davis also noted that the Titan lineup continues to be fleshed out, giving powerful and practical options to practically any truck enthusiast.

Why Is This Truck So Special?

MotorWeek decides its winners based on value, driving experience, performance, technology standards, and buyer preferences. The half-ton model has a 5 year/100k mile warranty that immediately appeals to drivers. It’s definitely better than any other warranty you’ll find on the market today for a similar truck. You can also get the Titan in a 5L, V8 Turbo Diesel version with 310 horsepower and a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Titan

First debuting with the roomy Crew Cab option (which was available in both the 4×4 and 4×2), its latest edition set to come out this spring will feature a King Cab for extra interior space. The bed of this truck has alloy cleats that can be moved around and then locked into place on the walls of the bed, and the tracks in the floor and header make it simple to tie down practically anything. You can get the bed with a spray-on bedliner for extra protection, LED lighting on the bedrail for easier nighttime moving, and a 110-volt outlet in bed for additional power. The Titan XD can tow more than 6 tons under the right circumstances.

Nissan’s Commitment

Nissan has stepped up their game in a lot of ways, and customers are taking note. Their Rogue had record sales numbers after partnering with the latest Star Wars movie, and they’ve been finding new ways to increase their exposure to American drivers. Nissan North America does most of their manufacturing in Tennessee and Mississippi, but the company employs professionals from a variety of other states as well, including California, Michigan, Arizona, and Indiana. They will continue to appeal to North American drivers, and listen to their concerns to create better cars, trucks, and SUVs.
