2016 Nissan Maxima

The Nissan Maxima made a smashing debut in 1981 as the Datsun Maxima. A few model years later, the Datsun moniker was dropped for a more favorable name, the Nissan Maxima. Ever since then, the Maxima has had a long and celebrated history. As one of Nissan’s best-selling full-size cars, the 2016 Nissan Maxima promises to continue its wildly successful tradition as an eighth generation vehicle.

What’s New With The 2016 Maxima

The 2016 Maxima went through a few design changes. Nissan hails the 2016 Maxima as “a 4 door sports car”, and it feels and handles as such. The Maxima is slightly lower and longer than its predecessors. This lower center of gravity, combined with advanced handling technology, gives this model superior handling around difficult curves. Some of this new technology include:

  • Active Trace Control. Automatically optimizes your turns by applying inner or outer brakes as necessary.
  • Active Engine Braking. Automatically downshifts the CVT transmission while you brake, while preparing the gears for acceleration.
  • Active Ride Control. When hitting a bump in the road, applies brakes to level the chassis to keep under control and comfortable.

The 2016 Nissan Maxima not only handles like a sports car, but performs like one as well. This is partially due to the Maxima’s 3.5-liter V6 engine, one of the most powerful non-turbo engines on the market. The V6 produces up to 300 horsepower with 261 ft-lbs of torque. All this is tied to the standard Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) that works similar to an automatic. If you’re worried about gas mileage, there’s no need. Maxima’s V6 engine boasts 22 mpg in the city and 30 on the highway.

Aeronatical Styling

For the 2016 Maxima, Nissan went all out to make it obvious the Maxima is influenced by aeronautical engineering. They developed a special metal stamping technique in order to bring you deeply scalloped doors and unique fighter-jet body lines. Additionally, the 2016 Nissan Maxima is designed in such a way to give the roof the appearance of hovering just above the cabin. The front end sports boomerang style LED headlights. From the back, wraparound taillight housing also contain LED lights, with chrome tipped dual exhaust.

2016-Maxima-Interior

Expanding on the 2016 Maxima’s aeronautical theme, Nissan designers visited the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels as inspiration for the cabin. Much like a fighter jet cockpit, all the buttons, levers, switches and knobs are easy to reach and placed where it makes sense.

The front of the cabin has two leather bucket seats, complete with multi-level heating. The 8-way power driver seat contains adjustable lumbar support, and height adjustment, while the passenger seat is 4-way power seat. Further in, you’ll find an 8-inch touchscreen display on the dashboard that contains amenities such as AM/FM radio, CD and MP3 player, voice activated GPS navigation, and NissanConnect Services powered by SiriusXM satellite radio. Everything here is accessible through your smart phone. Other key features in the 2016 Nissan Maxima are the rearview camera, dual-zone automatic climate control, a proximity key and push-button start.
